Almost fully caught up, working on commission work this week as well, so here’s the sketch for now!

Yay, colors!

Here are the flats! I finally got all my commission work done and am working on the sketch for the next page. I will shade them both together.

I’ve also ordered a test prints for postcards! I’ll update you guys on when and where to get them once I’ve done the tests.

I’m sure everyone has heard the news about the Queen now. I’ve never thought much about the royal family, but being here physically and seeing how much she’s meant to the British people, I feel a bit sad about it myself. There’s something about that generation slowly fading away that is truly tragic to me.

Edit: The page will be up tomorrow! I had quite a bit of commission work come through that took precedence. 

I thought I had an idea for a bracelet I liked for this, but then I was second guessing myself. I ended up spending yesterday redesigning it, which put me behind a bit, but I’m glad I did. I asked Jared for help to on what he would wear out of some of the concepts I had, and this was the winner!

I’m also thinking of doing postcards of this illustration if anyone is interested! I’ve been thinking about what I could have on different tiers for patreon, that I could actually do and people would like, and postcards would be a fun reward, but I want to test it out first. I’ll be ordering a test print soon before actual prints. Let me know if you would be interested in a postcard of this illustration, it’ll help me test out how things ship out from the UK. I’ll make a post again when I have the actual prints and what the cost should be, I’m hoping for it to be around $10 + shipping which shouldn’t be bad for a postcard, but the UK has a way of surprising me sometimes lol.

I can feel the tension in the room.

I promise this will be colored tomorrow! I’ve been trying to line all day, but we had another heat wave the last two days and my desk is in the corner of a very hot room and I couldn’t take the heat anymore today. I already love autumn but I especially can’t wait for it this year. I’ve lived in Texas and Florida, but the heat in England hits different I swear lol. These houses were not built to deal with anything above 75 degrees.

Uh-oh.

It’s a miracle, a colored page! I’ve honestly been putting off coloring pages on purpose, until I found a work flow where I really like the results, consistently. Maybe it’s an artist curse to always go back and forth, but I’ve finally found something that doesn’t take forever and incorporates multiple elements I love from other comics/art styles. I really enjoyed making this page, too. I’m sure Cain is not really popular with the readers, but he’s fun to write and draw lol. I kept Adrien’s bed head for now, because in the rush he’s in, there’s no way he’d fix his hair, and it fits his laid back personality.

Remember the Kyan and Tamiko pixel avatars I got? Well, I got Adrien and Emaré’s in! I have to find somewhere on the site to incorporate them now.

Vacation was a blast, as well. Thanks for all the well wishes! I always love going up North and to Scotland especially. The UK is the opposite of America, the more North you go the friendlier the people. I wouldn’t say people in the South are unfriendly either, just more introverted.

Stirling, Scotland and Scarborough, England were my favorite spots. Both could be straight out of Ghibli movie. I always see Brits making fun of the UK and how’s it boring, but there are some beautiful hidden gems here honestly. Scarborough was a total accident on our trip too, we wanted to stay in York again, but everything was booked. I found a cute Airbnb an hour away in Scarborough and I’m so glad I did! My parents absolutely loved it there. Nothing beats finding beautiful places on accident.

We also missed the massive festival in Edinburgh by two days, and apparently it was even more packed afterwards. That was another happy accident! I had no idea about all the August Festivals the UK has. Since schools here stay in session longer, August tends to have a lot of stuff going on for the short summer break.

I’ll be taking next week off, since my family will be in town! We’re going to London then Scotland, I can’t wait to show them around.

It wouldn’t be vacation time without some dramalama. We had some roofers fixing our roof last week and they cut down our trees/bushes. The guy is friends with our landlord, so we thought it was weird, but figured maybe he asked him to do it. Anyways, time went by and they took all their stuff but didn’t clean any of the debris. We contacted him and found out some random lady told them she has been trimming our trees for the last two years and the let her in the yard. Turns out, it was our neighbor behind us. We’re still figuring out how to handle the entire situation, but I’m more shocked that this woman was so motivated, she did not care if we found out. People are strange I tell ya.

I wonder what’s in the letter.

England is finally back to normal England weather and I am loving it. I will never take AC for granted again when I go back to the states, the UK is not built for 100 degree weather lol. It cooled off just in time for my family when they come out here next week. I will be trying to work on the page in advance so I don’t have to worry about it when they get here.

I’ve gotten really into Final Fantasy 7 recently. I’ve always wanted to play the games because of Kingdom Hearts, but never could growing up. My husband and I finally got the Remake and we looked up any plots/stories we needed to watch in case. I highly recommend checking out the story, it can be complicated to know where to start though. There’s a lot of beautiful messaging in it imo, and even some Christian symbolism, (even though that may not be the intent per se).

Here’s a few drawings I’ve done so far, I’m sure there will be more. I’ve also used these to practice the coloring method I want for the comic pages, it’s a little quicker and I like the results.

I’ve realized I probably need to adjust Kyan’s hand size with the map when I finish this page.

England has been so hot and there’s no way to really get relief from the heat here. The houses are built to keep heat in, have zero air flow, and no AC. I was so happy today when I saw clouds and it rained for awhile. Nothing smells better than rain after an extremely hot summer day imo.
